Our company, Dalkafouki Oikos, actively supports actions related to the revival, promotion, and preservation of our cultural heritage. Restoration and architecture are areas of particular importance for our country, and with great honor we stand sponsored by an abundance of conferences, actions, exhibitions, and presentations, contributing to their realization.

Closing another decade, we make a small review of recent years and present to you in 3 tributes our sponsorship actions from 2015 to 2020.

In this article you will find selected actions that we supported in 2017 and 2018.

2017, Skiathos

At the initiative of Monumenta and the Cultural Association “Skiathos”, the program “Registration and Promotion of 19th and 20th century buildings in Skiathos” began in 2017. The main goal of this program is the research and listing of all the buildings of the period 1830-1940, to study, to protect and highlight them. At the same time, photographs, drawings, and oral testimonies were collected about the history of the buildings of Skiathos, even those that have been destroyed. The collected material was registered in a database and is freely available to be a tool for information, research, and promotion of the architecture of Skiathos. For the participation in the program, forms were created with the sponsorship of our company.

22-24 September 2017, Elefsina

The 4th International Conference on Heritage Management “HerMa Conference” took place from 22-24 September 2017. The purpose of this conference was to bring to the spotlight issues related to the management of cultural heritage in the light of the extremely timely issue: “Monuments in ruins – Ruins as monuments”. This topic was explored through 5 sections: theoretical approaches, legal protection of cultural property, education, archeological cultural landscape and local communities, technological developments – and highlighted key issues of 21st century world culture, as well as best practices or should be adopted soon in the world in the field of cultural property management.

November 3, 2017, Museum of Byzantine Culture – Stefanos Dragoumis Amphitheater

On November 3, 2017, a screening of the documentary film “Roman Architects of the City” was organized, directed by Grigoris Economidis and written by Savvas Tsilenis, by the HELLENIC SOCIETY of Environment and Culture – Thessaloniki Branch and the Thessaloniki Architect Association. The event took place at the Museum of Byzantine Culture – Stefanos Dragoumis Amphitheater and was preceded by speeches by Kostas Stamatopoulos, Historian and Vice President of ELLET and Savva Tsileni, Dr. Architect of Urban Planning, NHRF. The film traces the presence of Roman architects in the bustling and multicultural Istanbul. The purpose of the film is to outline the work of the most important architects of the Greek Orthodox community of Istanbul, during the period of reforms that followed the decrees of Tanzimat (1839) and Islahat (1856), with the implementation of which the Ottoman Empire inspired by the developed civil states of Western Europe.

November 3, 2017, Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki – Ioulia Votokopoulou Hall

On November 3, 2017 at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki was held a conference on: “Diagnosis: Analytical Techniques and Preservation of Cultural Heritage.” The meeting was held on the initiative of the Department of Conservation, Chemical and Physical Research and Archaeometry. The main topics of the conference were the applications of diagnostic techniques in cultural heritage, the investigation of antiquities and works of art, erosion processes and methods of dealing with them, the design and development of maintenance methodology based on diagnosis and research developments. maintenance materials and their applications. The meeting took place in Ioulia Vokotopoulou Hall.

November 29 to December 10, 2017, Euclidis School Complex Event Hall

A retrospective exhibition on “Industrial Heritage in Greece 1980-2015: Rescue, Research, Education”, was organized from November 29 to December 10 by the HELLENIC SOCIETY of Environment and Culture – Thessaloniki Branch, accompanied by an exhibition of educational programs on industrial heritage. As part of the exhibition, a scientific day was organized on Thursday, November 30, in the same space as the exhibition, the event hall of the Euclidis school complex.

February 6, 2018, Technical University of Thessaloniki

On February 6, 2018, a lecture was given by Mr. Costas Zampas, Dr. Civil Engineer, NTUA, on the Eupaline Trench and entitled “More light in the tunnel of Eupaline”. The lecture was delivered by the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program “Protection, Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Monuments” of the Department of Architecture of the Polytechnic School of AUTh, the Hellenic Committee for Tunnels and Underground Works and the Hellenic Society of Environment and Culture (Thessaloniki branch), in the amphitheater of the Department of Dissemination of Research Results AUTH. Dr. Costas Zampas presented the research around the Eupaline trench, as well as the interdisciplinary study for the restoration of the tunnel and the project, which resulted in the possibility of visiting along its entire length, safely and with more light. The identity elements of the monument were also presented, and issues related to the design and construction of the tunnel were highlighted.

March 5, 2018, Museum of Byzantine Culture – Stefanos Dragoumis Amphitheater

On March 5, 2018 we had the opportunity to attend the lecture of Fotini Kaimaki at the amphitheater Stefanos Dragoumis of the Museum of Byzantine Culture. On the publication of her book “With the wing of travel. The calendars of Poulia and Calabria 1994-2015” Fotini Kaimaki traveled us to villages, rocky churches, people, songs and music of the area. The event was organized by the Hellenic Society of Environment and Culture in collaboration with the Museum of Byzantine Culture.

April 14, 2018, Corfu

On April 14, 2018, a Conference was held on the topic: “Mild restorations of buildings with compatible materials”. The meeting was held by the Association of Architects of Corfu in collaboration with the Association of Civil Engineers of Greece – Corfu Department. Characteristic of the meeting was the response from the scientific community of Corfu with the wide range of topics presented. The participants created a large information and exchange team for the restoration of monuments, buildings, and cultural management. Topics related to specialized building materials – use of hydraulic lime, restoration of historical monuments – award-winning examples, historical references of the city’s architecture as well as business ideas related to the construction, restoration and management of cultural heritage were presented.

April 21, 2018, Thessaloniki Concert Hall

On April 21, 2018, TEDxThessaloniki was successfully organized with the title “Avenues” at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall (Room M2). Fourteen speakers from Greece and abroad were present and shared their ideas and experiences. For the third year in a row, TedxThess was presented by journalist Anna Bousdoukou, who was present at the event. Our company, continuing to support events related to the dissemination of ideas, innovation, and culture, was present as a sponsor of the event, providing a unique souvenir to the participants. Natural pumice impregnated with organic lavender oil by Yfantia Terra!

May 4, 2018, Museum of Byzantine Culture – Stefanos Dragoumis Amphitheater

On May 4, 2018, at the “Stefanos Dragoumis” Amphitheater of the Byzantine Museum of Thessaloniki, an event was held on “The restoration of the Holy Canopy of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem”. This lecture was co-organized with absolute success by Ms. Moropoulou Antonia, professor at the National Technical University of Athens, who through her lecture presented the full range of the project and the difficulties of implementation. The event was held under the auspices of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

June 21, 2018, Palace of the Gallery

On June 21, 2018, the Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Thessaloniki, and the Association of Friends of the Historic Center co-organized on World Music Day, a music event at the Palace of the Gallery. The event was attended by the choir of the Alumni Association of American College Anatolia and the string trio Trinity Electric String Trio.

July 7, 2018, Agios Lavrentios Pelion

On July 7, 2018, the first workshop “On-site preparation and pilot application of restoration materials” was held with great success in Ag. Lavrentio, Pelion, within the framework of the 2nd Open Village. Mrs. Ioanna Papagianni, professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with materials from our house, Dalkafouki Oikos, suggested the method of application while Mr. Apostolos Vergos carried out the application. Our company was attended by Ms. Dalkafouki Maria in Agios Lavrentios.

21 to 23 September 2018, Technopolis of Athens

The 5th International Conference on Cultural Heritage Management, “HerMa Conference”, took place from September 21-23, 2018, which is an important international meeting of the sectors from the field of culture and education. The conference offered an innovative and experiential approach to the future of culture and its wider management. The place that hosted the rich program of the action, was the Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens and the honored country for that year was Sweden. Our company prepared for the participants an invitation – an offer for training in the application of traditional restoration techniques or decorative materials.

10 to 13 October 2018, Eugenides Foundation

The 1st International Conference entitled “Interdisciplinary multispectral modeling and cooperation for the preservation of cultural heritage” was held in Athens from 10-13 October 2018 with the active participation of the Polytechnic School and the Department of History and Archeology of the University of Ioannina. The conference featured presentations on innovative scientific methodologies that signal future trends in the protection of cultural heritage. The combined use of digital documentation technologies with innovative analytical and non-destructive techniques, computational and digital techniques and archaeometric methods, makes it possible to create an interdisciplinary multispectral modeling for the sustainable preservation of cultural heritage. The conference was held at the Eugenides Foundation and was organized under the auspices of the Presidency of the Hellenic Republic and the Hellenic Parliament, in collaboration with international organizations and associations (NGS, WMF, ICOMOS, CIPA, OWHC etc.), as well as international and Greek networks and associations in the field of cultural heritage conservation.

November 29 to December 16, 2018, Museum of Byzantine Culture – Eftixia Kourkoutidou Hall

From November 29 to December 16, 2018 was held the Exhibition “Europa Nostra Awards 1978-2018. Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments “. (see the relevant article here https://cutt.ly/Mx4DzYu). The Hellenic Society for the Protection of the Environment – Thessaloniki Branch, organized this exhibition in the context of the year of Cultural Heritage and the 4th International Conference on “Byzantine Monuments and Cultural Heritage – Map of Thessaloniki”, with the aim of promoting Byzantine monuments and the restoration was awarded by Europa Nostra. The exhibition took place at the Museum of Byzantine Culture and in the Eftixia Kourkoutidou Hall.
